Crematorium to host first Christmas Memorial Service.
19 December 2025
Maldon Fields held its first Christmas memorial service this week with bereaved families filling the chapel for a gentle and reflective service led by the Rev’d Julie Willmot alongside Glenn Mayes, a leading civil celebrant.
Nicola Saunders, Maldon Fields’ chapel manager, welcomed all guests and expressed the mixed emotions that people often feel at this time of year: “This season can be deeply emotional. While Christmas often brings warmth, light and togetherness, it can also highlight the space left by those who are no longer with us.”
During the service, families were able to light a candle for a lost loved one and there was also the opportunity to add a personal mes¬sage to hang on the crematorium’s Christ¬mas tree. The tags are made of seed paper which will be scattered within the grounds for wild flowers to bloom in the springtime.
Ms Saunders added: "The service provides a chance for us to gather as a community – each with our own memories, our own stories, and our own reasons for being here."
At the end of the service, a donation of £5K was presented to Debbie De Boltz of Farleigh Hospice from Maldon Fields’ metal recycling proceeds.
Maldon Fields plans to hold two services next year in order to give more people a chance to attend.
